FAQs - Renewable Energy

Mosscliff Environmental Ltd specialises in renewable energy solutions. If the answers to your queries about renewable energy are not featured here, do take a look at our links page>> or contact us>>

Why should I think about renewable energy solutions now?

Utility bills are rising; fossil fuels won’t last forever; CO2 emissions are making global warming a harsh reality.

As if the green arguments are not enough, the Government is incentivising renewable energy systems and has a payment system in place to reward renewable energy solutions. These reward payments will start to reduce on new installations made from April 2012.

Install a renewable energy system through a micro-generation certified installer before April 2012 and you will be able to access the top rate of payback throughout the full term of the agreement.

Will I qualify for any grants or incentive payments?

The Government no longer offers grants for renewable energy solutions, though it is always worth checking with your local authority about local initiatives or bulk buying possibilities through local green groups.

Feed-In Tariff payments were introduced to pay for renewable electricity generated by house holders using PV or wind turbines. They offer a good return against the capital cost of the installation .

How much energy does the average home need?

Government figures suggest a house will need 3,000-5,000kWh per year with a 2kW system generating approximately 1,600kWh per year. Find out more>>

Do I need constant weather conditions for a renewable energy source to work?

A solar PV system does not need direct sunlight for it to work; even on cloudy days it will still produce electricity. These days, wind turbines are available which can harness wind power at low windspeeds .

What happens if I invest in renewable energy solutions and they do not produce enough electricity for my needs?

Unless your property is in a particularly remote location and is not currently served by the national grid, renewable energy systems will allow energy to come into your home from the national grid to supplement energy production. At Mosscliff Environmental Ltd, our site survey will establish the type and size of system best suited to your property and energy requirements and give a predicted figure for the amount of energy you can expect to generate.

What if the system is producing more electricity than my needs?

As long as your property is served by the national grid, the system will export your additional electricity back into the national grid for redistribution and you will receive payment for it. Off-grid properties may employ battery systems to store excess energy for future use.

How much will it cost?

All renewable energy solutions provided by Mosscliff Environmental Ltd are bespoke - designed, supplied and installed to maximise energy efficiency. System suitability and cost are dictated by the nature of each property and the requirements for energy to be generated. Find out more about costs and saving opportunities >>

What level of VAT do I have to pay on the installation?

A reduced level of VAT - currently only 5% - is applicable to renewable energy systems for domestic properties.

What is the warranty period?

Systems usually enjoy a minimum 10 year manufacturer’s warranty.

What is the design life of a renewable energy system?

Systems with no moving parts such as PV panel arrays have a lifetime expectancy of up to 25 years, although in some instances, inverters may need to be replaced; systems with moving parts such as turbines, up to 20 years if serviced regularly.

What regular servicing is required?

Systems with moving parts should be serviced once a year by a qualified technician.

Are technical product details available of the different systems and equipment?

Our technical team are on hand to discuss any detailed questions you may have and the site survey is an excellent opportunity to explore your renewable energy solutions. Contact us>>
